We have always had a fascination with art house movies that tend to push the boundaries of what’s acceptable to the local palette. Some of our favourites include the movie In The Mood For Love and Lust Caution. You must think that we have an affinity for the Hong Kong Actor Tony Leung, but we just loved the backgrounds and setting of that time period. Incidentally, did you know that some parts of Lust Caution was shot in Ipoh? Let’s backtrack to a couple of weeks ago …. we met THREEBOX PHOTOGRAPHY who was on site to shoot a Pre Wedding Couple at M Boutique Hotel Ipoh. Having a cup of coffee at Oldtown White Coffee Grand, they shyly showed us their first Pre Wedding Photo shoot … and all of a sudden we were transported back to In The Mood For Love and Lust Caution. As such, we jumped at the opportunity to launch our FIRST Community Event : The Urban Vintage Pre Wedding Shoot! Who would’ve thought that Ipoh now is rising up in becoming the new cool town in the country?

It’s all started when I was browsing through Agoda last week, searching for the possibilities of checking out new hotels in town when I came across this one that I didn’t realized existed here. I know there many hotels popping up in this Tin City recently – from the newly open budget Ibis Styles nearby Ipoh SoHo, the quirky eco Happy 8 Retreat and the minimalist dream of Sekeping Kong Heng with its glass ‘treehouse’ @ Ipoh Old Town, to the one that’s currently being built at Jalan Sultan Idris Shah (beside SSF, touted to be called Tin City Hotel) – by which from what I read on the noticeboard it’s gonna have a mechanical-style elevated parking space, just like in Japan – Ipoh is definitely gonna be the travelers dream in the near future!

And mentioning that, this hotel that I’ve visited yesterday is amazing and the coolest one ever. The M Boutique Hotel, located somewhere in the East Bank of River Kinta, which is nothing like I’ve seen anywhere in the city. Very new concept, very hip, very chic, it intertwines the old charm of colonial-meet-modern look with the superb ambiance and decor. It’s not the hotel room that I’m gonna talk about here (that could be in another visit perhaps!), but it’s the in-house shop that is so equally awesome as the hotel itself : the M Shop.

Keep Gallery : A Preferred M Boutique Partner

You may be wondering why we are featuring Keep Gallery Wedding Studio’s logo on M Boutique Hotel Ipoh’s website. If you are unaware, at M Boutique Hotel Ipoh, we try to do our part to give back to the community. In actual fact, we have had many requests for commercial and personal photo shooting, and traditionally, Hotel’s do not allow such kind of activities as it can be seen to be an invasion of privacy and/or disturbing the peace in the Hotel. However, at M Boutique Hotel Ipoh, we think things a little different from the rest of Hotel. Call this our Corporate Social Responsibility program, but we just love to do our bit for the community. Sure, we have our set rules at M Boutique Hotel Ipoh, and we do ask you to take a room (Superior Room) to enable you to use our venue as your prewedding photo shoot, but we think that is fair. Apologies though, you can only take photos from Sunday to Thursday but you need to make an appointment with us!

Anyhow, enough about M Boutique Hotel Ipoh. Lets now focus on the creative works of Mr. Benny Koo from Keep Gallery Ipoh Branch, who has over the couple of weeks been busy shuttling to and fro from his office to M Boutique. We had known Mr. Koo from the inception of Keep Gallery and when we offered them a chance to take photos at our place, they returned with some wonderful portraiture in our humble hotel. When we asked for photos as we wanted to showcase some of the pictures to be shared by all, he was kind enough to oblige and hence we now have the opportunity to showcase some of his works at M Boutique Hotel.

The M Boutique Family Says Hello!

The Family at M Boutique Hotel Ipoh, says hello to all our guests, friends and colleagues in the hotel industry! It’s really nice to know that since our soft opening in November 2013, we have had a lot of comments from our in-house guests and we are extremely grateful for all your invaluable feedback. In actual fact M Boutique Hotel Ipoh was conceived and considered a pilot project for us, as we envisioned ourselves as casual and funky, in a rustic setting. It was quite a challenge since we all came from different hotel backgrounds, of which the term casual and funky was unheard of. How do we translate this into our service culture, that was the main question we had our pre-opening phases, we finally decided on a Family Orientated approach, which we felt was quite refreshing, yet numerous obstacles were still strewn in our path!

During these couple of months, we would, now and then, have guests who bestow the title on us, rating us as a 5 Star Hotel. We are indeed grateful for the high praise, but have always thought of ourselves as just a fairly unique home. Yes, we may have trimmings of luxury which is synonymous to many 5 Star Hotels, but with our service culture, we like to think of M Boutique Hotel Ipoh as our home, and you, our reader or in-house guest, our friend coming over to Ipoh to visit us. We did take a lot of trouble to look at all the smaller items that hotels provide, in ensuring quality in whatever we do. We are also a very small family and at times, the lines are blurred as to who does what, cause we believe in helping each other out! Isn’t that what a Family does?
